Craigslist Fake Rick?

Post by drumbob »

I just saw this on craigslist here in NJ. The seller calls in a "tribute" Rick. Experts, what do you think? I sent Rickenbacker an email and called and spoke to someone in customer service. Look it over. It has what looks like to be a real silver Rick case too.

Well yeah, it’s a Chinese made copy. And none of these are any good.

The sad part is that $500 worth of authentic RIC parts were added to this heap.

You're right. I spoke with the seller and he said it's a Chinese "Rickenfaker" with a bunch of real Rick parts. He bought it from someone else. He said the body is basically a 330, but not quite as large. I guess if you can't spring for a real Rick, this is a good alternative. In any event, he's not trying to palm it off as genuine, much to his credit. I think he could be a bit more forthcoming in his description of the guitar insofar as his CL ad though.

Someone could buy the guitar, strip it and sell all the good parts.
