Pillarbox Red?

Post by drumbob »

Scanning Reverb, I have come across a few Ricks with a finish called Pillarbox Red, which I never heard of before. Some of them seem to be from sellers in Europe. Can someone tell me about this finish?

Hmm........

My guess it is a colloquial reference to widescreen TV viewed on a 4:3 TV set. Probably they call a Red, or very deep FG with a deep red-to-black edge "burst" a Pillowbox.
The pillarbox effect occurs in widescreen video displays when black bars are placed on the sides [top and bottom] of the image.

It's the bright red color of public mail boxes (post boxes) in the UK.

It's okay to not know the answer... versus speculating.

As pointed out, this was an official color for a limited run last year.
