Sounds like sound advice.
Thanks.
I'm just afraid the lower frequencies would tear the heck out of a guitar amp.

I would be afraid of the same thing - when I play it through my old '64 Princeton, I usually capo it at the 5th fret or something, so it's more like a baritone guitar. You get better-sounding arpeggios & chords that way and less chance of damage to your amp.

Am I correct in guessing that there's no Bass VI "strangle" switch type function on the Pawn Shop model?

Lower frequencies may be a problem with old guitar speakers, but they're not going to have any negative effect on the amplifier itself.

I saw one at Premier Bass Guitars (the owner's, not for sale) and I think he said it had a strangle switch he intended to replace.

The Pawn Shop model does NOT have the strangle switch.

I'm considering buying one of these too. I think Robert Smith used one of these (not a "pawnshop" model but a bass VI) on some of the Cure stuff. There seems to be a lot you could do with it. I'm waiting for them to get one in at my local GC or Sam Ash to try (before I buy :) ).

I like the red one (mostly due to the matching headstock).

Thanks for the video!
