Jet Harris was the original bassist with the Shadows and featured on the first album and a lot of the early very successful singles.

Of course in US they meant nothing but The Shadows without question have a special place in history of UK pop.

Jet left Shadows along with Tony Meehan after release of first album for various reasons which I refrain from boring you with.

He released a number of solo singles before teaming up with Tony Meehan and released a number of very successful singles including Diamonds which went to number 1.. He's 70 this year had some bad patches in his life but here is Jet at his best.

His first solo release in 1962

A Clough Classic

Proably being somewhat self indulgent here but I#m enjoying the topic.

The Spotnicks from Sweden had some success in UK in 60s though this track was not a hit, here is a live recording from last year.

Guy on lead Bo Winberg is to The Spotnicks what Hank Marvin is to The Shadows - The Sound

The Spotnicks - Johnny Guitar.

Here's another attempt at a youtube video better but not quite there.

However this is superb a brilliant rendition of George Harrison's Something by The Shadows.

This album sold poorly and was really a contractual album, Bruce Welch was having health problems and was not on this album instead Alan Hawkshaw a renowned session musician though keyboard player was used, Hawkshaw also became a Shadow to replace Welch on a tour of Japan.

I would not say this album was one of The Shadows best but this track is a classic, well a Clough Classic at least.

Play it loud (note audio does not come in for 15 seconds not quite mastered movie maker)

The Shadows - Something

Comments welcome,, no mandatory.

Whilst this was not recorded in 60s very mich a 60s fell, a superb track by aa band called Tangent, very much influenced by The Shadows as the rather ironic album title suggests.

This is rather long as it is really three segments, inspired by the first confrontation with Iraq when they invaded Kuwait, a war that was probably justified, but this is not about political comment just the music enjoy.

The Tornados were the first group from UK to have a number 1 in US.

That of course was Telstar but I actually prefer this their first single

The Outlaws were initially a backing band used by Joe Meek and teamed up with Mike Berry, who had 2/3 hits here in UK in mid 60s but will mean noting in US.

The Outlaws though made a number of fine singles and had 2/3 very minor hits.

One of the band members was Chas Hodges who later went on in 80s to have hits as one half of Chas 'N 'Dave.

Also in 62 a very young Richie Blackmore joined the band and he is on this release both A & B side, give it a listen

The Outlaws - Return Of The Outlaws circa 1963
