Roy: Marianne's Summer Nights did not set me on fire. She made the best of what is, at least from my view, a lack lustre melody wrapped in a mediocre instrumentation. As was so typical of those days, well under two minutes and so it flies by quickly. A bit too short even though I was not unhappy when it ended. Having said that, I revisited this song an additional few times and I am liking it better now than on first listening.

The arrangement of this number reminds me of Petula Clark's Downtown to a degree, particularly the orchestration. Almost a tad of Casino Royale flavour here was well. For me, the song builds to what is a rather weak ending.

I still have As Tears Go By ahead of this one. It is unique, however, and quite a departure from her other hits. I am glad to have had the opportunity to hear it. Regardless of the theme, however, it just won't keep me awake at night.

how about a real rarity her and David Bowie doing I Got You Babe OFFICIALLY NOT RELEASED but it is nineties so under the rules may not qualify but it is sixties releated I suppose, what it demonstrate is how her voice so dramitically changed from the sweetness of summer nights

I believe you have been clear that tracks of musicians who first recorded in the 1960s is fair game on Clough's Classics, regardless of the year of their subsequent release.

That being said, the track to which you refer seems legitimate here.

Her singles may have been lightweight but Marianne Faithfull definitely appealed to my teenage eyes. (p.s. Nice picture of The Byrds).
