Phil Lynott and his 4001
you don't see pics of this very often. apparently he used a 4000 from time to time as well.

Phil had a black 4000 when Thin Lizzy toured with Slade in 1972 or 1973

He also used two different 4001's (one was a gorgeous royal blue).

His black 4001 had a mirror scratchplate (put on after they toured with Slade). http://www.rocklegend.thin-lizzy.com/images/gallery/75a.jpg
The one pictured up above in the thread may be the blue one.
I believe an amount of 'Jailbreak' album promo work was done using one, as that's when I got into Lizzy properly.
When he switched to using Fender Precisions, as the black Ric had gone in to have some serious work done on it, I remember a quote from him in an interview with a music mag, where he said "What's the point of havin' two fookin' Rickenbackers?"
Obviously, Phil didn't know then what we all know now - the more Rics the better!!

I have forwarded these links to my Thin Lizzy maniac friends. They, as I, appreciate it. Never would have known the connection between Ric and Mr. L. Over the holidays I rented the Australia live DVD and showed it to them, and was surprised they'd never seen it. One, though, a long time Lizzy fan, said he can't believe how many great songs they had yet how few of them made it onto that concert video release (and how much padding the set filler did.)
This is off the record
it's great seeing my fave bassist playing my fave basses. here's a few more shots of the RICs:
