Very interesting comments here with regard to the RIC warranty.

Here is the official warranty from the RIC site.
Warranty Information and Procedures
North American Limited Warranty

Rickenbacker International Corp. guarantees all instruments to be free from defective materials and workmanship to the original purchaser for five years, except for the finish, which is guaranteed for one year. This warranty begins upon the date of manufacture as stamped on the warranty card.

Should a defect become apparent during normal use, the instrument will be repaired free of charge, subject to the following conditions.

What's Not Covered
The warranty is void if, upon inspection by RIC factory personnel, the defect is determined to be the result of damage due to misuse, exposure to environmental extremes, modification, or the use of replacement parts, including strings, not in conformity with factory specifications, or due to damage not resulting from a manufacturing defect.

This warranty does not extend to strings or deterioration of items subject to routine wear and tear, nor shall it apply where the serial number has been removed or defaced.

How To Obtain Service
You must obtain a Return Authorization (RA) number from the factory prior to return of instrument. Ship the instrument prepaid to the address below, with the RA number prominently showing outside the carton, and include your name, address, and description of the problem. RIC will return it, shipping prepaid, following repair.

How To Register For Warranty
The instrument's original and unaltered warranty card must be completed and mailed to RIC within 10 days of purchase date in order to obtain service under the limited warranty. You may wish to retain a copy of the card and original sales receipt in case further proof of ownership is requested.

Where It's Valid
The warranty card is valid only in the United States and Canada: it is not valid in any other country. Authorized RIC distributors in other countries provide warranty administration appropriate to the laws of their country.

The following is the procedure for RIC repairs.
Returning an Instrument for Repair
Repairs Under Warranty in North America
Should any warranty repairs be necessary, we must have your warranty card on file or you must supply the original sales slip showing date of purchase, model, and serial number. All warranty repairs must be performed by the factory as we do not authorize warranty repairs elsewhere.

Prior to return of any item for warranty service in the U.S.A., you must phone our Customer Service Department at (714) 545-5574 to obtain a Return Authorization Number which will expedite the repair of your guitar. Also be sure to enclose a complete description of the damage. Be sure to insure the instrument for the full value, as you perceive it, when sending it.

Warranty exchanges for defective small parts can be accomplished, after consulting with customer service by telephone, by returning the part for replacement via prepaid transport, along with customer name, instrument serial number, purchase documentation, and a description of the defect.

Factory Specifications Parts for Repair
Whenever replacement parts are necessary to complete repairs, make sure that genuine Rickenbacker parts or their exact equivalent are used. The use of any parts which do not meet the original equipment specifications may void the warranty.

Shipping Your Guitar
First, consult the dealer where the instrument was purchased, as many full service dealers will take responsibility for shipping the instrument. Please do not loosen the strings on your guitar during shipping, as the instrument was designed to remain under tension at all times.

Warranty Repairs Outside North America
Outside of North America, contact the distributor in your country for instructions, as terms of warranty and procedures vary widely due to local custom and law.

It seems to me, very small adjustments aside, that the only way to insure quality control is to guarantee that the techician working on the insstrument is competent. Most of use have been in the position of seeing what unqualified techs can do to a fine instrument.

Hence the above quote,

Many techs may not know what to look for or how to make adjustments to a Rickenbacker. I have seen bewilderment on the faces of Fender techs when they were faced with two truss rods??

It seems to me that RIC has thought about most of the scenerios that we have discussed here. While it is frustrating for us, RIC has to wear it if a "qualified" technician screws up on their behalf.

While the wait is frustrating in the case of minor repairs to an instrument under warranty the price of waiting may be worth it should there be a happy ending. Also, while the instrument is back at the factory it does get a going over that allow for additional adjustments.
