Hello Geoff.

I recently met Joey Molland's brother here in Minnesota who shared some fun memories of watching the "All Things Must Pass" sessions. Now there is a "Fly on the Wall" scene I would love to share. Sometimes being a little brother has its advantages.

Anyway, it made me wonder, did members of Badfinger ever play the Iron Door? Perhaps the Masterminds?

Thanks!

Maybe one of these days I'll meet Joey, who also lives out here, and talk him into posting some memories.

Mark: I believe that the Masterminds did not begin before about 1964 which would have them missing Geoff's tenure at the Iron Door Club.

Badfinger was even later of course. Your question is, nonetheless, intriguing in that who knows what youngsters may have made it to the Club with an older brother.

It will be interesting to see what Geoff comes up with.

Hi Mark, I can see where you are coming from with your question, the band did have a Beatle connection with signing to the Apple Label in 1968, The year they were formed in Wales in 1965,
the Iron Door would have been closed one year, when this band kicked off.
If you could persuade Joey, the next time you see him to post some of his memories, we could all share with him.I for one would be most interested to read what he has to say.

I haven't met him yet, but everyone in this neck of the woods eventually comes to me for pizza. All roads lead to pizza. I will try to make contact and see if he would be interested in reminiscing about the Iron Door---I have to believe he hung out there as a young lad, or at least could tell some good related tales.

His younger brother tells me that he and Joey and some others now put on an annual George Harrison tribute in Minneapolis as a band they call Shakespeare's Bag, and they play what he calls "all the hard stuff" like "Wah Wah" and "Bangladesh," all played, as he says, the "correct" way.

Geoff, thank you for this forum. I'm having a great time reading your stories and learning. This is what I like to call the internet at its shining best.

Cheers, Lyle

Lyle, you come over as being a real good guy to have around,I think you would have enjoyed the Iron Door in the 60s.
I had to laugh at your "All roads lead to pizza"
We certainly did get youngsters in the club of fourteen years of age.
Although we did not encourage this,it is possible on a busy night he may have sneaked in.
I'm afraid that on many occasion when I detected a youngster was keen I would ask the bouncers to let them in and look after them.
I occasionally see Paul Pilnick who for a short while was with the Big Three,Steeler's Wheel &Wings two of the groups that I believe Joey may have had a connection.
Paul may have some stories that I might be able to relate back to you Lyle.
In any case if you think Joey ventured into the Iron Door,I shall follow it up and of coarse relate any information back.
Also it is encouraging to know that Joey is still keeping his hand in.Thank you

Lyle, you asked me if any members of Badfinger played at the Iron Door,I have recently contacted Pete Clarke (Clarkie) who played in the Iron Door with the Escorts, also with other bands Vince and the Volcano's in early 1961/62/63.
Peter has lived in America since the early 70s he appears to have played with many groups, one of the groups was Badfinger.
He is in regular comunication wth Joey Molland.
I understand from your earlier comments that Joey's brother Dougie frequents your Pizza Parlour,Peter would like you to relay a message "Tell Dougie I have STOPPED SMOKING"
