"How fantastic does that 4005 sound????? Niiiiice Jeffrey...."

Thanks Shaun!

I keep telling everybody how great these sound but some are just sceptical of hollowbody basses getting that "Rick" sound. Image

Jeffrey, I played a 70's one once and it didn't sound anywhere near as good as that. That's a marvelous bass sound. What year is yours?

Jeff and I did a comparison - my '74 vs. his '67, both double-bound.

His was considerable lighter than mine, which we attributed to the thin neck and the full-width inlays on his.

The pickups sounded fairly similar - his toasters, mine higains. Really, the biggest difference was in volume and perhaps a bit of clarity. But for the most part, close.

There's a picture of me with it somewhere, Dave. I think Kris Lyons took it.

Needless to say, it was incredible. We plugged it in and both took turns doing rockabilly impressions on it. The long PAF Accent w/ the musical notes was really cool too.

The guy also brought a new-style RM 360 w/ F-hole! Really cool.

John B, I'm glad you had the opportunity to play it. It's now safely in the Rick Vault at Pascoe's place until it makes the journey across the Pacific to it's new home. Image

I have to decide whether to ship it out via Fedex or UPS or to collect it when I come out to SoCal in August.

I have a great idea, Darren. Have the Fatboy shipped to various forumites working it's way to the SoCal Confluence. For example, it could go to John, then to me, then to Ted, etc, until it finally ends up with, say, Gary in California! Image
