Wow, I like that white one John!
Hey Jim,
What do you say we get together and give him an order for a few?
I'd love one of those!

Shed some light, John. What do you know about this bass? I've never heard of Chris ever playing a newer model Rickenbacker.sloop_john_b wrote:Jim, the FOOW bass is a new bass.
Tony, I'd like one of those, but the Reality Bass is the one I'm really after. Alright, I can make room for one of each!
Re: Squire's other basses
#1 on the reality bass, jim, that's a really nice design. seeing chris play his foow bass on "machine messiah", i would conclude it's a new v63,with the hotter pickups,as it sounded very different (less distinct/clear/clanky) from the rm he played most of the show.
Re: Squire's other basses
Just spotted this on the RIC site....yesmrsquire wrote:Here's a closer view of Squire's FOOW ric. Is this recently been made for him? I have never seen him pictured with it before.
"“Fish Out of Water,” is a custom painted 4001 bass inspired by the artwork of Chris Squire’s first solo album of the same name. Squire’s main instrument is a Rickenbacker 4001, which he has owned and played since 1965; it was the fourth 4001 ever imported into Britain from the United States. The “Fish Out of Water” Bass is a 4001C64 (donated by RIC), featuring a custom finish conceptualized by Chris Squire and painted by Dan MacPherson.."
So I guess this means it was a custom made version with the headstock reversed?

Re: Squire's other basses
Very interesting, Tony, and that makes sense. After reading John Biscuti's post, I looked at the photo again and noted that the bridge p/u surround taper is smaller, similar to a C64 surround.
Re: Squire's other basses
Well Jim,
With the NEW NEWS posted at the corporate site!
And I QUOTE...
"We will cease taking orders for the following models following the end of the NAMM 2009 tradeshow on January 18th, 2009:
325C58
4001C64
4001C64S
This change is due to the factory already working at 100% capacity, combined with a plan to offer some additional products which might be considered to overlap with these models."
Hmmm, I wonder if the FOOW bass was a prototype? POSSIBLY a new Vintage series bass lurks on the horizon? This can be VERY, VERY COOL!

No word on Vincent's book as of yet. It should be a good one when completed. He now owns many of Chris' best instruments.boki-san wrote:i'm new to the forum, and just read through this great thread.
