Searchers (Sire)
...ahem... and can anybody tell why one's star fades quickly and other's shine for years? I mean, i know of some people in show business who 'went away' for a decade or so, and then they came back, and there were lots of people waiting and hungering for them, and there was a great response. And if there was a failure, they just took it as it came, and kept on waiting for another comeback. They kept on waiting no matter what was happening, or what has happened. No matter how good their idols looked or how well they sang/played... The Searchers are not the case, right? Why? Cause they are too 'normal' ('boring'?), mean their only means to attract the audience was their music, not scandals and 'private life' issue?.. Huh... could be.

Public Broadcasting in the U.S. has success rolling out old soul and doo wop acts to sold out house in Atlantic City, and they did something similar with Tony Orlando and Dawn, the Fifth Dimension, Dionne Warwick, BJ Thomas, Lou Rawls, Debby Boone and the Association. I don't know why it wouldn't be possible to package some of the still-performing "British Invasion" acts -- there have to be just as many people who love that music. I'd pay to see it.

On the subject of the PBS oldies shows -- especially the latest ones from Atlantic City -- I will point out that there is judicious video editing being done ... to the point that what you see onscreen may or nmay not correspond to what's being heard on the audio track. There are several places where the producers went for the overall look rather than using what was actually happening onstage. At one point -- I think it's during Debbie Boone's appearance on the show that also featured the Association -- you'll notice that the entire band suddenly becomes left handed. Closeups of guitar solos don't always match what's on the track. Minor points know, but I still can't figure out why flipping the video was so important. On the positive side, I know about half the guys in the band and played for several years with Don Garvin, the main guitarist and studio sound technician.

I have really loved this song since I first heard it about a year ago. I hope the guys are happy with the way I use their music in my videos, Roy...my 2 grand passions in life are The Searchers and (my) Scottish Terriers.
