Last Ones Left
Robyn and I are just about to check out of the Holiday Inn, headed for LAX and then Hawaii later today. The place sure ain't the same without you all .
We thought we might get Denny Pezzin all to ourselves and have a VG time last night, however we had a better offer from some friends in Laguna Beach.
Thanks to everyone who has helped make our stay in SoCal so wonderful. We've had an absolute ball. So many friends, so many guitars, so many laughs, so much beer, so little time!
Last year I made a promise to Joey Vasco and Gary Clauson that I would return, and it was a privilege to do so, accompanied this time by Robyn. She loved meeting many of the great Forum personalities and getting up on stage with me. I am a very lucky guy!
I'm a big believer in self-fulfilling prophecies. Set your mind to accomplish something and then do it. Many people over the weekend expressed their desire to visit to Australia one day, from John, Cindalee and Ben Hall through to Kenny, Graham, Alison, Joey and Diane, Steve and Tammy, Paul W, Dahlia and Juliana, John A and the list goes on.
Once I return to Melbourne, Howard and I will start the planning for the Australian Confluence to be held in 2010. Although the suggested timeframe is two and a half years away, if you start telling yourself right now that you're going to Melbourne, Australia in 2010, it will happen before you know it. Believe me.
On behalf of Robyn and I, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to such an amazing week in California.
See ya next year. Promise.

Darren, glad you brought Robyn with you. Diane and I hope you'll bring her again next time. We look forward to your return.
I've always wanted to visit Australia. An Australian confluence is the best reason to make sure that I do!
I've heard that Denny Pezzin wants to tour Australia in 2010!

A real gas as usual, Darren. But saying "as usual" is giving you and Robyn (sure she's not from California?) short shrift. Nothing "usual" about most Rick people I know!
And, yes, we WILL be in Melbourne in 2010. The only tough decision will be which two guitars to bring...maybe my Jazzbo? Should be completed by then...
I've got it! I'll start sending my guitars and basses over, one a month. Your mailing address, please?
Then there's trying to get them back afterwards...

“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did.”

Darren, great post! I sure enjoyed the time I spent with you and Robyn. Hopefully, she's feeling a whole lot better now (antibiotics taken control) so she can really enjoy Hawaii.
Interesting you were last out last year and this one too. The 5pm bar call had to be kinda lonely... Any coupons left over?!
Till next year!
