Love the deletion of the pick guard. The two deck pick guard design is an interesting and signature element, but when you have wood, and a finish like that it would be a shame to hide it with a big blob of plastic!

hi all -
just received my '66 1999RM back from Paul. it required an extensive restoration as the previous owner had stripped the finish and added a contour to the upper wing. it was a patience testing wait to see it back in my possession; but I'm sure you'll agree that the results speak for themselves.

Gorgeous! Paul is indeed an artist!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
That is a beautifully dark fireglo! And the color of the fretboard is really nice, too!

Re: LOTS OF PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION...
Bryce's bass was a nice challenge, and I am thrilled that he's happy with it, knowing how particular he is about his instruments! I'd had it for a very long time, and actually stripped and painted it no less than 3 times before I was happy with the finish. It wasn't the color so much as issues with temperature (first time--clear coat wouldn't harden properly due to low temp in the booth) and paint contamination (pearl flakes in the deep red shading that became obvious once I'd finished spraying). Dang. Third time was the charm, and the extras came at no charge.
This bass has a gorgeous fretboard from original, and all of the parts are correct. Sergio rewound the bridge pickups on both this and the '68 4001 I finished for Bryce not so long ago. Both of these basses also got new show-chrome-plated hardware and extra time was spent disassembling, ultrasonically cleaning and hand-polishing the tuners so they look fresh. The top body wing had been beveled dramatically for comfort; it was removed and a replacement made from hard maple with a similar grain. The neck on these is one piece and has a very nice contour, too. Headstock "curl" had a chipped tip which was rebuilt with epoxy.
In all, a great project and I'm glad that Bryce was super-patient and let me get it done to my satisfaction.

I really like that dark Fireglo, it looks nice with the S body. What does 'S' stand for?
