Ozfest 2008

Re: Ozfest 2008
It was a slow start the next morning. Glen kindly offered to drive us around for a tour of the Sydney guitar shops. We started in Newtown at Pete's Musicans Market. While we were waiting for the store to open Glen showed us his "64 RM 1995:-
You could hear the sound of four jaws hitting the ground next. The staff tempted us with two guitars owned by Martin Rotsey of Midnight Oil. They were not for sale, but just getting to hold and play such gorgeous instruments had us salivating. Here is Graham holding a 1968 360-12F and Glen holding a 1965 RM 1993.-
Next we hit Parramatta Rd, Annandale, which is famous for it's golden mile of guitar shops. A highlight was Jackson's Rare Guitars, where we saw the finest selection of top end vintage guitars that we'd all seen for some time. Graham couldn't decide which he enjoyed the most....holding an original 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard (worth about $300,000) or getting a nice sweet kiss from Glen:-You could hear the sound of four jaws hitting the ground next. We passed a place offering pole-dancing lessons, causing Graham and Howard to assuming the now-frequently adopted dance pose:-
Rickenbacker Squad..squeezed into the Rickenbackermobile....Glen's little BMW 318i. This is one of Dave's better poses:-
After visiting Guitar Crazy at Coogee Beach, the lads inspected the local wildlife again:-'59 425, '59 335, '60 335, '60 360, '60 335F, '60 345F, '64 RM 1999, '65 RM 1998, '65 360-12, '66 335, '67 450-12, '72 4001 '72 4001, '75 4000, '75 4000CS, '00 700S, '01 700C, '01 700S-12, '01 730S-FH, '06 660 DCM

The fun continues:-
Dave couldn't keep up with the Aussie drinking pace and kept asking for soft drink with decorations instead:-

Re: Ozfest 2008
Last night we caught the ferry to Manly, where we saw the most exceptional local wildlife.
Ferry fare to Manly = $6.50
Dinner at the beachside = $330.00
Seeing Graham actually paying for dinner = priceless After dinner we saw blues/soul band The Hiptones, who originate from Adelaide and happened to be on tour. We caught the last ferry ride home and during the trip, we were concerned that Howard appeared to have stopped breathing:- We laughed and laughed and laughed at the thought of leaving Howard on the ferry all night!

Seeing Graham with that 360/12 F makes me think of this recent news article that appeared in the Houston Chroncile.

Re: Ozfest 2008
We had a great night tonight. We found a fantastic little Italian restaurant in the back streets of Sydney. Dave was in his element. He was pouring on the charm all night. He enquired to one waitress............"tell me........what part of Italy are you from?"..............she replied "Spain"............we all erupted into hysterical laughter. From then on Dave was fair game. After many drinks, we all sang a new forum song.........."do the dance for me, do the dance for me" which has been pretty much the theme of the trip, the crazy poses myself and Darren etc have been doing. John Biscuti has a recording of it on his answer phone
I think we were all a little hard on Dave tonight. He remarked that this was "Worst vacation EVER!" Laughing as he said it!
We all decided tonight that confluences.............no matter how large or small.........are simply the best!!
Oh...........when you see Dave, ask him about John Enselwood (as Dave says.........bass player in the Who) sodering his Rickenbarker!!! Just TOO funny!

Great, great stuff there guys.
Many cool photo's, and I like that one where Glen can't even bear to look at that RM1993!
Remember, next time double Red Bull and Vodka for Aitch before the journey home...

I cannot believe that I was drunk-dialed this morning.8mileshigh wrote:John Biscuti has a recording of it on his answer phone
Re: Ozfest 2008
John, can you transfer the phone message into a mp3 file? Who knows, it could worth something.sloop_john_b wrote:I cannot believe that I was drunk-dialed this morning.

Great posts, pictures, and times. You guys know how to have a good time. Thanks so much for sharing - I'm headed home to down a couple shots to you four!
Re: Ozfest 2008
What a fabulous time we all had!! Of course it would have been better if Dave had embraced the 'spirit' of the moments but what can I say? Once a wet blanket always a wet blanket!!
Some pics from me:
