So Cal 2008

Re: So Cal 2008
There actually ended up being 8 SoCal forumites splitting the tab with two MIA. The $512.00 for sodo was just crazy though. I was bringing in my own soda anyway, although I heard it was against the rules.
Re: So Cal 2008
So I take it that this is (or may become) an annual event? It would be a lovely excuse to spend some time out on the Left Coast.

This will be #4, Jim, if I'm not mistaken.

When I worked in the hotel business (spent more than 20 years), the meeting rooms were comped if the group had an X number of guest rooms nights (generally about 10 to 15 rooms per night).myfretless wrote:... I remember there was an issue of cost for the room though ...
Room Expense $1057.83
Drink Expense $512.87
Total Expenses $1570.70

Re: So Cal 2008
Still true...we looked into several hotels while we were in SoCal over Easter weekend, with the thought of recommending another venue for SoCal '08; however, this becomes less the case as the hotels move down the price scale. Mid-range hotels like the Holiday Inn often charge at their option.
Re: So Cal 2008
For $1500.00 we could have rented the California Room at the Doubletree like JH did for RIC's 75th for two nights with a few bucks left over. I'm not criticising the organizers in any way, but I'm sure no one was told there was a potential to run up a sods&water tab of half a grand.
Re: So Cal 2008
I'll have to give this some serious consideration for '09. This summer is all booked up. From the videos on YouTube I saw taken at the '07 SoCal Confluence, it looked like a real fine time.johnallg wrote:This will be #4, Jim, if I'm not mistaken.
Now that I think about it, a fellow instructor from the Americana Music Academy and I were talking about making a pilgrimage out to Portland in '09. Shoot, may as well just extend the trip southward down I-5, eh?

SoCal guys, I've sent you email. If I've forgotten any SoCal forumite that would like to be included in the email, let me know.

If we're only going for two days/nights, perhaps the hotel where the 75th was held might be considered, though it's higher priced. The showroom/jam room was available longer it seemed, and we got pretty loud.
Re: So Cal 2008
Exactly...the 75th local had everything we need. This would save us from moving all the gear to another local to play.

Even if we decided on the Double Tree Club last year. it was all booked up already for when we wanted it anyway.

Okay, who would be coming to a last weekend of August confluence (only weekend a particular hotel is available).

That weekend works for me.

I'm going to give it every effort. The third time is bound to be a charm.
