Mike ...
How have you been? Did you move to Texas? I am still driving the 2004 mustang convertable ... Yes!
Chris does have a picture of him using a mapleglo 4001 on the Yes Album so he did own and use a bass like the one described.

The one pictured isn't a 4001.

I emailed Music Ground and they are sending me some pics...if they remember.
Its supposed to be in Manchester so I will ring in the morning to check it out.
That photo is Chris with the Syn isnt it?
I dont think this is going to be the famous 21 fretter and its not going to be a "CS spare" either by my reckoning.
Knowing Music Ground it will be an overpriced bass whatever it is.
Dont hold your breath.

Could it be this bass here?
If yes then it would have 21 frets, and full width inlays.

Isn't the bass in this pic the "Yes Album" Ric? The other pic (top of thread) is a recent one of Chris with his original 4001S. Maybe Vince Gallo could provide some history of the 21 fret MG.jwr2 wrote:Could it be this bass here?

Another Squire bass for sale, yada, yada, yada..........
The big mystery was offered by the famous ajish4. Well put sir, it's a painful question I often pursue. At least you have your rugged good looks.
Thanks for the belly laugh!
Wouldn't or shouldn't a bass owned by CS have more zeros in the price?

Re: Chris Squire's 1969 4001
I phoned Music Ground on Oxford Road Manchester just now and its not there.
Pity as its only a 20 minute ride on the tram.
They told me to ring the Leeds shop and said its a "consignment" piece.
Quite what that means I dont know but perhaps its being sold for a customer.
I know what Music Ground are like price wise and I think if this was an important bass then it would be going for a lot more.
Surely Chris wouldnt be selling through those guys?
Chris has had a lot of basses over the years so it could be anything.
If its the 21 fretter I will ram raid the shop with my Volvo!
