Amp problem?

Post by cheyenne »

My current rig is as follows: BBE Bmax preamp, Carvin DCM 1500, Carvin RL210 bass cab.

Recently I've noticed after everything warms up during playing I'm getting a "building" hum that starts quietly and gradually gets louder, degrading my signal. I can walk up to my amp rack and tap it on the top, and it will quit for a while? What do you think?

I've switched out all the cords with new ones, even tried a different preamp, and still get the hum. The Carvin power amp is the only thing common. It is less than 3 months old and has never been run hard or gigged.

Opinions?

Call ,Carvin, as it sounds like you've isolated the problem to the amp. It should still be under warranty(unless you bought it used). The only other thing I could suggest is try another power amp(you could probably rent one)and see what happens. Either way,get on the phone to Carvin whether it's under warranty or not, and see what they say. Good luck.

Sounds like a loose power supply cap - cold solder joint - that's my guess. Yup, call Carvin. Unless you feel lucky with a soldering iron and opening her up won't void the warranty.

Absolutely be careful if you open it up, as ther are voltages stored in the amp that can kill you, even if it is unplugged. I don't know your skill level, so please excuse me if I'm telling you something you already know.

I've been using Carvin stuff for alot of years. Its great "middle of the road" gear. Great stuff for the gigging musician.
