My new avatar is in honor of those that fly into the hurricanes. They are stationed at Keelser Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS, which is also where I was born.

Not to drift the thread too much, but I think this is one of the coolest pictures ever taken...Hurricane Katrina's eye from above.

Avatars help in identifying the poster, indeed. Letters in the name may be a bit too small. But, on the other hand, some like to change avatars, and once you get used to one and it's changed, you may be confused a bit.

Yes it is easy to make the animated gifs....Some software is much easier than others. The problem with file size is the fact that to make one that looks respectable you need more frames. The more frames the better it looks. The lack of numerous frames gives you less movement..which is what it's all about. Brian Crisman's avatar I think only has 3 or 4 frames which makes it work on this forum. There are ways of getting around the number of frames by making the duration of each frame a bit longer to make it more pleasing to the eye. I experimented with a few not too long ago in fact.
All three of these use the same size pictures and are all black and white.
The pictures are extremely small by themselves but when adding frames it adds up quick.
This one has many frames and the largest file size. It looks the best but is too big. It's 192kb
- Temp1.gif (192.5 KiB) Viewed 10247 times
This next one has a lot less frames but is still way to big...
The duration is set at default but changes quickly. It weighs in @ 47kb
- Temp2.gif (47.31 KiB) Viewed 10247 times
Lastly this one has only two frames but the duration of the frames is much greater. It is just under the 8kb limit @ 7.63kb
- Temp3.gif (7.64 KiB) Viewed 10247 times
I hope this info helps anyone wanting to create their own animated avatar.

Don't tell Jared, as he has been waiting forever to get a Kubota. How does IR stack up compared to Kubota?
The drummer in the Lemon Antennas as 4 Kubotas! Make sure Jared doesn't hear about those, either.

I need to shrink/delete frames enough to use this as an avatar but haven't got around to messing with it yet....
I "borrowed" my GN avatar but have tinkered with .gif's before......if I get some time I'll see what I can come up with.
