73' MV Twin Reverb Tank Swap?

Hello!

So I've got a 73' Twin and the reverb sounds REALLY mechanical/robotic. I usually can't use it past 4 before it's just overwhelming.

Any advice on a tank I could swap it with? Don't care if it's vintage.. as long as it sounds good!

I'm drawing a blank; what does "MV" stand for?

First try switching out the tube to see if it makes a difference, if you have one handy. I believe it's a 12AT7, I could be wrong though.

After that I would pull the tank out and see if it's the correct Accutronics tank, or even if it is an Accutronics reverb tank; a guitar tech put a completely out of control/overkill wrong model Accutronics tank in one of my Twins (it had more springs-3 maybe?)and it was ridiculously too deep, which sounds like what might be going on with your amp. The model code should be stamped on the tank sheet metal. The correct Accutronics tank for the Fender Twin Reverb is model number 4AB3C1B.

Hey Paul,

MV was Master Volume shortened.

Switched the tube already (it was going) and it didn't change.

I'll take a look at the tank and see what's up. I was just unsure of the tank # and "twin reverb" and "tank" is a tough search! haha

I switched out the tank in my AC30 so I'm assuming it'll be just as easy in the twin.

There is a good chance that the original reverb tank was replaced with one that isn't the OEM spec. IIRC the TR takes a 'long two-spring' reverb. Accutronics' still has a website (http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/) but no 'what reverb tank do I need?' help section ... but it appears that Twin Reverbs need a Type 4 (http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/Type4.htm). but again, no help in determining the right tank for that particular amp. After work tonight I can see if I can access my 1968 TR's reverb tank and let you know which one it has in it. I can also see if I can find my tube amp book and see whether its schematics give the reverb tank designation.

Some owners switch out the two spring long tank for a 3 spring long tank so it's more "swampy", but it's complete overkill IMO.

The part number I listed in a previous post is the one for Twin and Super Rev amps.
