A really cool look at what Tom uses onstage, from his Ricks to his effects to his amplifiers:

Tom Petty's Rig
Re: Tom Petty's Rig
Thanks for this, Dan. Very inciteful information on TP's stuff, and a good look at the pedal-board for the die-hard TP fan.
Although (a bit of trivia here), they say his 1997 was made in 1997. From what I've gathered, the 1997 was made in November 1986, and was one of the first ones shipped out by Rickenbacker. TP had a gold TRC and TP-signature guard made for it. He used it with the stock guards and TRC when he performed with Axl Rose at the MTV music awards in '89. The '80s 620/12 is actually the prototype for what became the 660/12TP, and it was made in late 1989.
I did not know the 360/12 MG was made in '67! I was thinking more like '66 or '65. And I always thought the '64 Strat was a '63.
TP loves those British amps. A Hiwatt and a Marshall plexi cannot be beaten. If one's looking to do it loud and proud, that's the way.
