But how you gonna kill ants with your guitar strapped up high?

I know just what you mean. Bending my wrist to extreme while squeezing is a good way to get tendonitis.jingle_jangle wrote:I'm sitting down because I sling my guitars like Gerry Marsden, and whenever I borrow a guitar (as I did Doug's 1997), the strap is always too long for me. Playing with the guitar slung Rick Nielsen-low is really bad for both my wrists...
When you look at pics of early players of stringed instruments who are standing, they seem to always have the instrument up high. Mandolins are played nearly at shoulder level. This seems to be biomechanically friendlier.
I like mine medium to high depending on the shape of the guitar and how it hangs. That was Dan's 1997, but you did the same thing with my 375. Given my small stature you might actually have liked my strap length . I had a lot of trouble with Big Red because Paul likes it waaaay low and my small frame only made it lower. My small paunch helped mitigate that a little.jingle_jangle wrote:I'm sitting down because I sling my guitars like Gerry Marsden, and whenever I borrow a guitar (as I did Doug's 1997), the strap is always too long for me. It was great meeting you in person and jamming with you as well, Harry! You played some amazing stuff on bass, and did a killer job on vocals and drums as well.hieronymous wrote:I wanted to revisit BARC a little bit:
First, I wanted to thank everyone for the opportunity to play and sing (I might have said this already) - I don't get to play with other people that much, especially not songs (usually improvising with just a drummer), so it was a lot of fun and inspiring as well. I went into the studio recently and recorded a couple of vocal numbers, which I haven't done in 7 or 8 years!
Second, I realized that not only is it great to get the chance to play other people's instruments, but it's nice to hear someone else play your own! I got a real kick out of playing drums while Joey played my 4001! Despite the bad PA amp that was doubling as a bass amp, Joey on my 4001 through Woody's SansAmp VT Bass pedal sounded fat and heavy!
Looking forward to the next one! Maybe one of these days I'll be able to make it to one of the southern ones...
I wish we had brought your rig of the Glockenklang Soul amp and Epifani 2x10 cab into the jam room. It sounded way better than the amp that was being used from bass in the jam room. I almost didn't even come into the jam room and play because I was having fun and diggin' the tone and playing Ricks your rig so much.hieronymous wrote:Despite the bad PA amp that was doubling as a bass amp, Joey on my 4001 through Woody's SansAmp VT Bass pedal sounded fat and heavy!

I concur! Harry should get the multi-instrumentalist award for BARC.paologregorio wrote:It was great meeting you in person and jamming with you as well, Harry! You played some amazing stuff on bass, and did a killer job on vocals and drums as well.
Agreed!I think I mentioned this already, but Kira was amazing on bass as well!! Super solid-she owns it!
No sweat, Paul. I would have swapped one of mine, but I don't do strap locks and I figured that might make you nervous!Doug, sorry about the strap on Big Red; I go through phases wrt my strap length, probably more according to mood than anything else.
Man I still feel bad about not throwing my G-K 1001RBII head in the car that morning. I thought we were set for bass amps. It's no Glockenklang, but I think it beats a PA amp.rickenbrother wrote:I wish we had brought your rig of the Glockenklang Soul amp and Epifani 2x10 cab into the jam room. I know I'm going to try to make it to the southland sometime when work and life permit. Maybe a carpool would be in order if we can get coordinated. I may be in San Diego for work in a few weeks, but I'm not sure if I'll have a chance to get up to LA from there as I'll be flying in.I hope you do make it down to a SoCal jam...and drag a few of the NorCal people with ya!
Thanks, Paul; it was fun playing with you, too. Yeah, I have a lot of experience with bass - as much as I love guitar, I was born to beat on that fat string thing. And if you hear of any openings, I'd love to get with a group again ...paologregorio wrote: I think I mentioned this already, but Kira was amazing on bass as well!! Super solid-she owns it! I knew she was really good from listening to her recordings, but this was the first time I'd seen her play live, or had an opportunity to jam with her.

Doug, sorry about the strap on Big Red; I go through phases with my strap length, probably more according to mood than anything else. I can't remember which song it was, but on one Beatles number I played and sang, I held the guitar up to just under my neck in an exaggerated "George" style while I sang so everyone across the room could follow the chords if they weren't quite sure, whilst shaking my head, moptop style. Must have been HDN,IWTHYH, or "Slow Down". Anyone get a shot of that? It must have looked quite silly.
In any case, it was fun. Hope you guys will want to come south for the next one. Joey, Rich, and I are thinking about a minicon soon, and we're going to try to put together a Jake Jam in October.
