Joey V, Rich F, and I will be celebrating with a double set of live music at a block party down at the beach, along with a couple of other mutual friends. :D We will be Rickpresenting with at least two Ricks each. Might have some video up after. :)

Paulie, are you ready to rock tomorrow?! 8)
If you saw these posts on the other 4th of July thread, you had an inkling that it was about the Return of The Glendoras 8) :D -- to the second annual Glendora Ave 4th of July Block Party, in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach, right up from the ocean. After rehearsing a few times to learn some additional material, The Glendoras (consisting of Paulie, Joey, Rich and Glendora residents Robert (on lead vocals) and Alberto (on drums) were ready to rock and roll with two + sets of some 80s favorites from The Plimsouls, The Cars, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.

Highlights included our Rickified rendition of Ozzy's "Crazy Train", the Kiss anthemn "Strutter" and Robert's electrifying vocal performance on the 4th of July classic "Born on the Bayou" which had the party-ers dancing in the street.

One of the Block Party attendees, who was feeling no pain, was a big Kiss fan and wanted to sing along.... Finally on an encore performance of Strutter, Paulie let the Kiss-fan share the microphone and my daughter reported that after his singing debut, the Kiss-fan promptly passed out in a chair and never made it to the encore of Born on the Bayou.

In the evening we walked down to the beach to see the great fireworks display at the Queen Mary as well as the fireworks that several Block Party attendees brought along, to liven things up !

Hope everyone had a good Holiday, too !
Pics to follow of The Glendoras Rickified performance ....

Ditto here; thanks for posting the photos, Rich. :)

It was a great time. :D It's always gret to be able to play music with the guys, and the block party was a lot of fun-everyone was really enthusiastic. :)

Wow, I don't think I even picked up the Blue Boy for any songs, but Big Red sounded so good for all the six string numbers I pretty much just stayed with that guitar except for a couple of the Cars songs, and maybe the first time through "Ziggy Stardust", which I played the Gretsch Silver Jet on. It's just a combination of the wood the guitar's made from (super resonant!!), it was a lovely WB to begin with, Larry Davis' masterful guitar work, and Sergio's pickup coils; they're just "juicier" (thanks PW) sounding than my other Toasters.

Jake, I played through the Custom Twin Reverb you like; first time I ever used it for a live gig-sounded super cool! I forgot one of the mods to the amp was changing the vibrato from a black face style circuit to a brown face style circuit. It's supposed to have some sort of compressive effect, but I don't know enough about it to explain it. I could tell it sounded different though-like the one on my `63 Twin. Paul W, George B, or Skip could probably tell you about the difference since they're some of the resident surf guitar gurus.

Looks like a fun time! Did anyone record any sound/video?
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Yep. Has to be edited. Last year Alberto made us each a super cool and formatted DVD, complete with a menu, scene selection, extras, et cetera.

Paulie ---- I know you played the Gretsch on The Car's "Best Friend's Girl" and "Just What I Needed" as well as "Ziggy" and the Vox-XII string on the Echo and the Bunnymen tunes "Seven Seas" and "Killing Moon" .... but I guess my daughter Paige, [who was taking the pictures], has been somewhat indoctrinated by 8) Rickenbacker appreciation :) and she only took pics of you with your Rics ! Maybe someone else got pics of you with your Silver Jet or the Vox XII :?:

I'll look when I get home, but I'm sure Diane got pics of Paulie with the Silver Jet. Not sure about the Vox XII though.
