Some surprises in there. PERSONALLY, they can drop the #4 in 14, IMHO CS will always be #1. 8)

The list seems skewed as much as the usual Rolling Stone-style list: bumping true greats to the middle of the list while padding it out with modern players to attract a modern (read: younger) audience. There are way too many quality and groundbreaking players in the middle to bottom end (no pun intended) of the list that should be higher based on what they managed to accomplish.

What a mess that poll is...........it's all wrong IMO. Besides Chris being at #14 which is a travesty as far as I am concerned, there's no mention of Tal Wilkenfeld at all..........and what on earth is Paul McCartney doing in the number 10 slot? He should have been much higher. The poll has to have been rigged to some degree.

Matt your assessment is bang on. 8)

Wow, have they got it all wrong. I was getting more and more irritated with the order (Carol Kaye at #23??!!??) but then I saw who was #1 and the statement it was an online vote, so it is totally suspect and dominated by younger persons. Who gives a darn.

I also agree with Matt's assessment. While I have no problem with most of those bassists being on that list, Chris Squire, John Paul Jones, Jack Bruce and some others should be up much higher. Geddy Lee is about where he should be IMO. Pino Palladino isn't on that list, but he should should be. Congrats to John Myung, an excellent bassist for getting the top spot. Chris Squire keeps the #1 spot on my personal greatest bassists list.

That because Brian is a big Jeff Beck fan.

Absolutely.............I really noticed her when she started playing with Jeff Beck's band and she has become one of my faves. She is an amazing bassist.

I don't think Tal is touring with Beck right now....

the list is a list subject to the voters... wonder what that list would look like from something like Bass Player Magazine or some such rag?

Yes another talented lady. Rhonda would look good playing a Rick IMO. :D

Polls, lists, Hall of Fame voting... All a waste of time in my opinion. One of the things that used to be nice about being a Yes Fan is that we didn't really care what others thought about their music. We knew what was important to us. Whenever people would try to push my buttons about Yes music, I just shrugged them off. Didn't need their approval then or now.

As for Rolling Stone's opinion, well, this is a family forum, so I'll go no further. Still haven't spent one dollar on their magazine & probably never will.

The R&R HOF is about a two hour drive, but without Yes and Rush, not worth my time either...

As for this "poll", well, I don't need someone else to tell me where Chris is ranked. I already know! :D

P.S. Thanks for the link, Tony!

jim-you took the words right out of my mouth. it has always been great to find people who "got" the same music i did,but i just don't have time for those who don't...case in point,on a youtube (i know i know) video of silversun pickups "panic switch",there are the usual asinine comments about the dude's vocals as "gay","sounds like a chick",etc...which is what i ran into early on listening to yes and sparks.....urrrghh!
i guarantee if the poll was done by bass player magazine, the number one would be marcus miller. and finally,no disrepect to john myung, who is technically great, but i never found most of dream theater's music all that special.....i do like Flea,tho...
