LATEST MID BLUE
I picked up an unplayed 2007 MID 330/6 for a customer a few months ago, and was absolutely blown away by the color (good price, too!). I decided that I would get one for myself, as soon as a reasonably-priced one came to my attention.
A couple of weeks ago, I found one at Wildwood in Colorado. I received it a week ago this coming Saturday, and I have to say that the folks in SA have outdone themselves. Both color (a bit more violet than the 2007 version) and build quality are superb. Plays like a dream, great tone, too.
I'm trying to decide whether to mod it or keep it stock...meantime, I'm too busy to play more than a song or two an evening.
There's no question that THIS is the Golden Age of Rickenbackers. The combination of CNC shaping with hand finishing and assembly, topped with a state-of-the-art UV-catalyzed paint system, makes the current Ricks the hands-down bargains of today's guitars.
GREAT WORK, RIC!!!

I've always been of the opinion that Ricks were a great bargain... Dang, now you're making me want to get one with the new UV finish... well, maybe a few more than one...jingle_jangle wrote:There's no question that THIS is the Golden Age of Rickenbackers. Not sure, Tom. If I come up with something nice and conservative, and reversible, I will.
Here's a shot of my 2010 MID 330 next to a customer's NOS 2007. Notice that the 2010 (on the right) leans a tad toward the purple side--perhaps a half-shade or so?

When I again have the means, I'd like a matching pair of 381s (6 and 12) in MID!

I would say rather the one on the right leans towards the cyan side. A good true blue should have a bit of a purplish castjingle_jangle wrote:Not sure, Tom. If I come up with something nice and conservative, and reversible, I will.

"I would say rather the one on the right leans towards the cyan side."
Indeed, that's another way of saying the same thing!
"A good true blue should have a bit of a purplish cast."
Compared to what? Without a reference point or color standard, color comparisons and descriptions are vague at best.
