Second Off Topic... Not So Much

Post by jcreasy »

I am getting ready to start doing some acoustic stuff with my Rick. There is no pickguard. I have seen the clear pickguard material from StewMac but is there something thinner? I am thinking like that vinyl film that adheres by static... Anything like that? I'd like to protect the front of the guitar from pick marks but save the basic/unspoiled look.

This may also go on the J-50 if PW lets me refinish it.

Thanks in advance.

Static cling is fine if your guitar's finish is nice and glossy. Don't leave it on for a long time, however, or the varnish on the guitar may swell from the plasticizer in the vinyl. I'd avoid any stick-on stuff--even though the stick-on guard may be Mylar, which is fairly inert, the adhesives have plasticizers!

Let's talk about this off line next week or the next. I would love to be able to put something on and take it off with shows. Like the no pick guard look but do not like the heavy pick marks.

Regards and hope you are having a happy holiday season.
