Hi there,
I am cleaning up the register as I am working on the new pricelist (that will contain lapsteels).
If you'll take a look at http://www.rickresource.com/register/in ... =4&order=1 you'll see a list of all lapsteels currently on the register, however - most of them have "lapsteel" or "console steel" or "steel" under special.
My question is - are these different sub models? such as V64 for guitars? for example: is a Console 500/Lapsteel any different than the Console 500/Console Steel ??? if the only thing that counts is the model - would it be safe to remove any "special" model reference? it is conflicting with the way the pricelist works and if we don't need it - I rather remove it.

I consider a Console Steel and a Lap Steel to be two different animals. One described as a steel could be either one.

Console steel and lapsteel are most certainly different. Our cleanup continues. Getting our ducks in a row is a challenge.

What I am trying to figure out is weather it is possible to have the same model designation, once for lapsteel and once for console. For example, this model 500 is listed as both:

I don't know much about console models or pedal steels.

With lap steels there are few specifically named variations except as to the number of strings. However, many of the lap steel models evolved over the years of production and various features were changed.

Let's take the Model B introduced ca 1935. It had only a volume control on the treble side. A few years later a tone control was added on the bass side. and several years later both the volume and tone controls were placed on the treble side. Throughout the prewar era It was called the Model B. No specific versions were specified. The all had 1.5" magnets.

After WW2 there were some Model Bs made with a tail piece and some were strung through the body. All of them had 1.25" magnets. Again they were called the Model B. The only true variant of the Model B by name was the Model BD (deluxe). It had a headstock cover. That was the only difference. There were other variations during the war as well.

In the prewar era the Models 59 and 100 went through parallel feature variation. After the war they became the Models NS and G.
Some of the postwar Bakelite Academy/Ace models had integrated hand rest/pickup covers, while others had exposed pickups.

The early postwar Model 100 had a slotted headstock and the later ones were solid.

That's all I can think of right now, but that hits most of the high points. I hope this helps.

The model 500s are consoles not lap steels.
