Photography class work.

Post by Ontario_RIC_fan »

Hello All:

I have been taking a college class in Graphic Design. Our end of term project is a photo essay - I have been taking images of my guitars...

Here are a few images so far. Nice to be shooting in a studio setting with a backdrop and proper lighting.

August 1977. QH 3474. My only Rickenbacker that survived from my teen guitars. It survived a rather nasty fire in 1991.

I got it back again after a 17 year absence,

There is a thread about me getting it back again here. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=387368

Very nice. Theres something about photographing guitars that appeals to a wide range of folks, not just those of us who like looking at guitars.

Brian, I think the stark white backgrounds and simple structure of your poses really accentuate the beauty of your guitars. 8) Very nice photo work. :D I really like these shots.

What type of pickups are on the Black 620, on the right in the bottom picture ??

Thanks everyone for the kind words about my first time photography work...

I have taken over 700 images of them in those sessions - I will share more later - including shots of my 430 and of a borrowed 1968 FG 360

Rich - the pickups in my 1977 JG 620 are EMG's. This is the guitar Collin bought for me in Los Angeles last year. I have finally acquired all the stuff I need to return it to stock - High Gains, Kluson Tuners and a new selector switch. Just saving the money now to have the work done - most likely at the 12fth Fret in Toronto.

I have come to like the EMG's and will eventually have them installed in a 70's Epiphone ET290 that someone replaced the pick ups .

I like my RICS to sound like RICS! 8) 8) 8)

Oh, I remember that guitar that Collin picked up for you and Dan-o got you the case. That's cool that you're going to return the JG 620 back to "original" everything !!! I agree about wanting to have your Rics be authentic !!

Might even be a very worthwhile photo-essay subject for you, as your luthier works on the various processes of the restoration :D :D

Looking forward to seeing more of the 700 pics you took.

And finally a few group shots... Including an attempt at assembling a family portrait.. All of the guitars were never in the studio at the same time alas.

Well done, Brian ! I really like your stark white backgrounds, which translates into 100% of the photo interest for the viewer being on the Rickenbacker subject. 8) The colors and lighting are very good and your simplistic poses just make the Rics look all the more inviting. :D :D
