Re: Interview with Chris on Guitar World
Thanks, Miguel!
I always enjoy interviews with Chris.
>Anyone know? Will Wakeman's son tour again with them on this next leg or is Downes taking over? (I enjoyed young Wakeman's playing when I saw them a few years ago.)

But seriously, he is a very skilled keyboardist. When I saw the band almost 2 years ago, the (good) Wakeman DNA was strong: he clearly had a great command on the YES classics and did not "show off" and "bluff" like his pop tended to do. And the "3 Ages of Magick" CD by him and Steve How is excellent. His keyboard style is sooo similar to Rick but yet on balance, he has his own signature and I like his approach.

If anyone deserves to show off and bluff, its Rick Wakeman. Pop is well in a league above Junior. I can't wait to hear him in the upcoming AWR venture.
Re: Interview with Chris on Guitar World
Interestingly Chris mentions raiding parts to keep things as near as original.
Remember the 21 fretter that his ex sold through Music Ground over here?
Well that had what looked like a horse shoe pickup and surround from an early 60s bass in the shops photos.
However If you look at the video of Astral Traveller from the early 70s and the inside sleeve of Fragile it originally had a modern style pickup and cover.

First off.....would the "Ex" be Nikki Squire of ESQUIRE fame????
Second.....HOW did SHE have that bass to sell off?????
Finally......I am a HUGE Squire fan, and yet, YOU guys ALWAYS scoop me on Squire facts/info.
WHERE do you find your information??????????????????????????????????????????????????

PS: A 21 fretter would NOT have had a horseshoe and surround. Wasn't that bass around in '71????
AFTER the horsey was phased out............

Re: Interview with Chris on Guitar World
the HS on the 21 fretter shouldnt have been there if the bass was in totally original condition.
Chris must have replaced the original after the Yes Album time (its still got the original on the tv show with SH on guitar doing TAAW songs so thats around the Yes album time) and years later his ex had the bass for sale in that condition.
(Its not hard to imagine the 21 fretter and the Tele bass going astray with the break up of his marriage and touring all the time etc.)
I seem to remember someone mentioning Chris having lots of spares in his tool kit so I suppose he dropped the HS in to the 21 fretter as part of his liking for HS pickups and we have many basses on this forum that have similar mods.
Its an easy job to swap pickups and if you happen to have the spares its worth trying out I suppose.
There is also mention somewhere about his bass having been in for repair but the treble pickup wasnt connected but there was doubt about his RM ever having its HS disconnected.
Maybe it was the 21 fretter and not the RM ?.
