The Birds Want Equal Time
I've posted a bit about my cats, the birds are feeling left out.
This is Harley. He's a Senegal Parrot. He's very curious as to what goes on here. Harley has been a good friend of mine for about 17 and a half years. I have him since he's 6 weeks old.
He doesn't talk well,he does try, but he can imitate any sound in the house including; opening a soda bottle, beeps from the microwave, light switch clicks. He has hundreds of them and does them with perfect timing. He also does human whistles, coughs, sneezes and laughs. He yells shut up at Pirate, but it comes out as SSSSSHUP! He dances, loves to get his head scratched and he is a member of BWA (Birdies With Attitude).
Tried to get him in mid dance here:
This is Kraemer, a Green Cheek Conure (Conures are a group of long tailed parrots) who has been a good friend of almost 12 years. Her birthday (hatchday) is next week. We have her since she's 4 months old. She tries to say many things, but we can only make out her saying, "What's up?" She's gotten a bit shy since she got very sick and we almost lost her a few years ago. She comes around with a bit of encouragement, especially if you have a treat for her. She was originally named Kramer after the character on the Seinfeld series due to her comical and entertaining moves. We added the extra "e" in her name when we found out he was a she.
You may have seen Pirate, a Blue-Fronted Amazon Parrot before. My trusty and good friend for almost 28 years. I have him since he's 10 weeks old. He talks, he THINKS he can sing and his imitation of human belly laugh is very contagious. He always has a happy demeanor.
Pirate: "I talk! Can you fly?"

You must have got Pirate when you were a kid.......
Great pics Joey. It's great to see the little guys who always sound so happy in the background. When I hear them that is.

You can kind of say I got Pirate when I was a kid.
You usually hear Harley whistling and making other sounds. Some day you'll have to hear Pirate sing or laugh. I promise you will fall out of your chair if he gets into his belly laugh,

Joey, you must have Harley do his rendition of My Back Pages. Byrds of a feather should flock together. Great photos.

Peter you have a better chance of a "My Back Pages" from Pirate. From Harley, you'd most likely get a version of "My Torn Pages".admin wrote:Joey, you must have Harley do his rendition of My Back Pages. Byrds of a feather should flock together. Great photos.

Great to see the birds!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: The Birds Want Equal Time
Yeah, I thought Pirate might play a little air guitar. Maybe a rendition of Little Wing.

Of all the pets I've had...and I've had several different kinds of pets. including; birds, dogs, cats, snakes, fresh and salt water tropical fish. None react to or appreciate music like the birds do. Especially Pirate and he loves it loud, from opera to metal! His least favorite band is The Rolling Stones. Don't ask me why, just is. The pets I've had with the least response to music, snakes because they can't hear.

But they CAN feel. You just need to crank the bass more...rickenbrother wrote:Of all the pets I've had...and I've had several different kinds of pets. including; birds, dogs, cats, snakes, fresh and salt water tropical fish. Believe me, since I was a youngster and first learned how to turn on a stereo, there was NEVER a lack of bass. Most people used to think it was an excess. I was destined to be a bassist.cjj wrote:But they CAN feel. Re: The Birds Want Equal Time
Depends on the species of parrot. A Blue-Fronted Amazon like Pirate can live 60 - 70 years.sloop_john_b wrote:28 years! How long do they typically live Joey?
A Senegal Parrot like Harley can live about 25 years.
I get conflicting info on how long a Green Cheek Conure like Kraemer can live. I've heard about 15 years. I've also heard 25 years and I've heard all ranges in between. Why the confusion about one of the most popular subspecies of parrots, I don't know! Most species of Conures have a very loud, ear piercing scream. I know very well. I had a Jenday Conure once. A beautiful bird, but LOUD! The Green Cheek Conures are much quieter. But at least most sources will say a Jenday Conure has a life span of about 25 years.
Dan: the birds thought you were cool too...and Harley can make the sound of the cork coming out of the bottle of wine you brought!
