What is a good starter for a newbie?
Hello, I am a newbie and was wondering what would be a good starter Rick lap slide to learn on? I do not know anything about 8 or 10 strings, so a 6 string lap slide to start. Thank you for any help, Randal

I would suggest one of the Model 100 series. They are relatively inexpensive and sound very good.
Another alternative is to be metal body model NS. I don't think they sound as good but they are good instruments.

Richard: As you know I have thought of getting a lap steel before. I put it on hold as I was bothered by a difficult time I had when trying a non-Rickenbacker that I did not get along with well. What words of encouragement can you offer based on your experience with lap steels. Perhaps the one I had was not set up properly.

Richard: More rock and pop that might be found in songs such as Teach Your Children, My Sweet Lord as well as some classic bottleneck tunes.

Peter,
The Model 100 series and the NS would fill the bill. ($400-5oo)
For just a little more money ($600) the Model 59 would be better.
