Who would Have thought ? $3050 for 5 NOS Tubes
This bid just ended on April 23rd.
The marvels of what gear prices can be fetched on E-Bay ...... New Old Stock Mullard gold-pin 12AX7 tubes.... 5 of them, for $3050 !
And there were 37 bids by 14 different bidders, no less ! ! !
(I am neither the seller nor buyer !)

You ever heard Mullards in a really good tube amp?
I've got a few NOS Amperex 6DJAs; one or two are Bugle Boys IIRC. Wonder what they'd go for?

Lot's of good things are said about old Mullards on various gear forums.johnallg wrote:You ever heard Mullards in a really good tube amp?
At these kinds of prices, treasure-hunters will start digging into old radios, amplifiers and military surplus equipment, etc. etcjohnallg wrote: I've got a few NOS Amperex 6DJAs; one or two are Bugle Boys IIRC. Wonder what they'd go for?

Dang! I've got several old radios out of B-24 bombers from WWII, I wonder what's inside of those...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

My 2204 Marshal has a set of 1962 Mullard ECC83s in it courtesy of an old Bogen Hi-Fi amp that I inherited...8mileshigher wrote:Lot's of good things are said about old Mullards on various gear forums.johnallg wrote:You ever heard Mullards in a really good tube amp?

I think the "audiophiles" are driving much of the market on NOS tubes these days. You know, those guys who need the best matched dual mono amps with the best tubes to listen to their MP3 collections.
I kid that interned a few years ago where I work had a good 'scam' going. He and some friends made iPhone/iPod to RCA adapters with oversized cryogenically treated wire. They spent about $6 on each of them and sold them on the web at a price point of around $400. They made no claims, just gave wire details and set the price where "audiophiles" would assume they must be really good. People started buying and leaving glowing testimonials in the reviews.
Now we have to compete with those guys for tubes....

The places I play, the audience wouldn't notice if I was playing out of time and/or out of tune, let alone whether my preamp tubes were "high-end"....Happyface wrote:We may notice the difference. Your audience does not.

I've got five NOS IEC Mullard 12AX7's, each in their own box, and all 5 in a five pack box....not gold pin.....I wonder if I should sell those. For that price I sure would!
