Music Man has recently starting making the Sabre model again, which would be great in a fretless version.

Jeff-thanks,for some reason i thought ziricote was some kind of synthetic,so i now will keep zircote in mind if i go that route.(i am also considering doing the operation on my hollowbody Rimini). Morgan- I used to own an early stingray,but i really prefer NT or SN basses overall.
Colin Moulding is great! That does indeed look like a FL Musician bass he's playing that very cool bassline on.

Morgan,NT=Neck Through (like a 4003),SN =Set Neck
It isn't probably that big a deal to most,it's just an alternative construction to Fender-style bolt-on necks.

Woody, a strong recommendation against de-fretting. The problem is that you end up doubling the number of decisions you need to make. With a proper fretless, you have the side dots at pitch and that's all you need. WIth a de-fret, you have to identify the side dot and the filled in fretline. Too much thinking and not enough playing. My $0.02.

That seems to be the way i'm headed at present,but i seem to be finding i do best if i don't even look at the fingerboard! (Which hasn't been easy!)
