I am restoring a 1961 Gretsch 6120 and am in need of a 3 x 3 set of open backed Waverly tuners preferably faded gold finish. I've attached photos of the type I am looking for. Any assistance or leads appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Ron,

I think they are hard to get in an aged version. StewartMacDonald has them, but not in a aged gold version. I think you have to do the aging yourself !

The new Waverly's are a very different animal from the ones used on Gretsch's from that era.
The new ones have .249" string posts where the old ones are .236 or smaller (Like .220"…)
The ferrules of the old ones are also very different in OD size as well.

StewMac does offer a "Golden Age" tuner, but it's not gold, has a plastic button, and a scalloped plate.
So- a little too different to be worth it.

Nice, original Waverly machines usually go for a premium. I've needed a set for my 6123 Monkees for a long time. I finally broke down and bought a set on eBay. They went for quite a bit, but the guy included a '50s/early '60s Duo Jet truss rod cover with screws. I hope to offset the cost of the machine heads by selling the cover.

Damn, wish I knew you needed a set a couple years ago Ron. I had a full set of these off a '62 6120 that I sold some years back for cheap. :(

I still have a few of the washers and ferrules for these, if you need them (gratis!)
