Type of paint used on 4001?

Post by Hawkins77 »

Hello all,

I have a new release (2010 I think) 4001C64 covered in JetGlow Black.
Does anyone know what type of paint is on it? I don't know if they kept the Lacquer paint of old or use some new Enamel type. I need to touch up a couple spots and want to make sure I use the right stuff.

Thanks!!

Until week 19 of 2010 RIC used acid catalyzed polyurethane. Since that week they are using UV cured polyester.

Is Your serial e.g. 10 20xxx or higher it is the new finish.

Going the easy way: Using the serial decoder can tell You the exact production date:

If Your serial is close to that alteration date I would RIC drop a line to be on the safe side.

While our last use of lacquer was in 1958, it would be a good choice for touch-up as it will be compatible with everything and is commonly available to you without requirement for special equipment.
