A member emailed me and told me their 2000 non-reissue VP has foam. Seems to match what I'm seeing in the register as well.

I think the grommets were only on reissue models, but I could be wrong. Most stock models that I've seen with the VP option have had the foam.

Yep, grommets only on vintage reissue models.
