That's a little unusual for a Rick, but it all depends on the nut. Winding it down all the way on the post could be all it takes to solve the issue. The 1-degree or whatever from winding it down could have a big effect.

Turns out I was misled during the sale. The strings given to me were not the same gauge. The low E was .046, the new pack had a .052. Ordered a new set of strings.

Good call, a low .052 is way too heavy for a 12-string. Nice way to remove the neck from the body quickly though.

Were you misled deliberately? That's how I would perceive your word, misled.

No , maybe misinformed. The guy who sold it to me was doing it for his wife's friend. She was a recent widow and knew her friend's husband knew something about guitars. It was communicated that the 2 sets of Curt Magans in the case were the same as what were on the guitar.

Okay, no big deal. Strings are cheap. :)

Still looking for recommendations on starting measurements for relief and action.

You can set a Rick up just like any other guitar, there is nothing special, magical, or different about them compared to any other instrument. Besides, setups and measurements are a very personal thing so do what you usually do for any other instrument you own and adjust from there to your own liking.
