Shredding

Don't necessarily subscribe, but I just ran across a good quip:

"Shredding is to guitar music like auctioneering is to conversation."

That's a good analogy. I've never understood the point of "shredding," because if you slow most of those people down (and turn off the overdrive), many of them sound terrible.

To me, it's always about the careful selection of notes - or even the space between notes - that makes a great player.

Reminds of going to the guitar store and somebody is "trying out" a guitar, pedal or amp. But now I've just remembered this awesome video of Santana "shredding" at Woodstock:

A few years ago Michael Shrieve e-mailed me out of the blue to discuss that video! :D And, about an amp he had to sell that he wanted my help on. :mrgreen:

How'd the discussion go? Was the video a crack-up for him too? Somebody put a bit of effort into it.
