Did Rickenbacker ever release a purple guitar?

Someone on my local Craigslist sold a purple Ric and it looked Midnight Blue to me.

He said it was purple.

A 660/12 in Purpleburst was made for Mark Hudson in 1996. You can find this instrument on the Rickenbacker Register. It was one of two custom made factory purple finish guitars arranged by John Hall.

I've always thought the mid-00's MID's looked quite purple in person, especially under indoor fluorescent lights.

I’ve only seen pictures, but the dark cherry metalic used on the 75th aniversary instruments, looks quite purple:

You're right, DCM is purple-ish. But indoors, it's nearly black. In sunlight, it's a very bright burgundy.

It wasn't purple burst. It was solid, like Midnight Blue.

He replied via email that it looked purple to him and he sold it.

Thanks everybody. I didn't think Rickenbacker put out a purple guitar. (with the above rare exception).

Yep, a MID. He's not wrong - some of them definitely look purple (which I dig!)

There's at least one 4004Cii that started out TransBlue but faded to purple somehow...
