+1! If there was a worthiness test for instruments, I'd be playing a kazoo!bassduke49 wrote:I don't think it has anything to do with "worthy" - like his "music" or not, the guy made a deal with RIC to custom make three basses for him. They didn't make them to give to someone "worthy" of them, but someone "wealthy" enough to pay for them. Nothin' wrong with that.
Not my kind of music, but I don't appreciate Mötorhead's music or Lemmy's tone either. So, Dane, when you customized Rick basses for your customers, did you evaluate the customer's musical ability or tone before accepting the money?

Not sure if you are referring to my thread in the for sale area, but don't you think it was in bad taste for Vincent to post there dissing the refin of the bass that I was trying to sell in the first place? It wasn't a "Hey, what do you think of this?" thread.Meanwhile in another thread it's perfectly okay to attack Vincent Gallo about his opinion on something as well.
He claims to be Mr. Purist and then posts in the wanted section for lap-steels that he can rip the HS's out of.
Sorry for the thread drift.
Re: 3 Short scale 4030 basses
Dane's harness, I commissioned, for my 4004C is great. I have a Blend/Volume/Tone. The volume and tone are pull/push so O can tap the coils on the respective pickups. I asked for a got the 500K set up as I wanted some higher range in the output. With the 500K circuitry I don't feel there was any loss of the low end "darker" quality of the instrument. Dane built what I asked for. He didn't force anything on me, just good workmanship for what I asked for. Dane even found a knob for me for the new pot.... I am VERY happy with the results!

Do the shorties sound the same as the regular sized 4003?

My guess would be that they are not far off. Short scale versions of the Jazz Bass sound strikingly like their full-length cousins.lumgimfong wrote:Do the shorties sound the same as the regular sized 4003?

Re: 3 Short scale 4030 basses
My very first bass guitar was an EBO copy, followed that a few years later with a real EBO, with an added bridge pickup, my first "EB3". I was all set to be the next Jack Bruce. And it was easy for my smaller hands to get around on a '30 scale. By the time I was 18 though, I was playing a '34 scale, and I've never really looked back, playing Ricks, and Fender Jazz and P-basses ever since.teeder wrote:OK, that just changed my mind. No short scales for me!Short scale basses also seem to play to the hipster millennial
But what is hipster millennial music anyway? I would think it is possible to produce really nice bass lines and tone with these '30 scale instruments.

If only I had $3200 just laying around. And I love the blueburst finish, especially with the Richlite fretboard. Ah, well, I don't know what I'd do with it, anyway. I'd play it a few times, then probably go back to my full size Rics.
Re: 3 Short scale 4030 basses
Anyone try a Ric with the "Richlite" fingerboard yet? I'd like to see it in person.
