1959 Rickenbacker 315/325 sold recently on Ebay.

Post by larrywassgren »

Did anybody here notice the blonde 1959 Rickenbacker 315(converted to 325) on Ebay? It sold for $15600 to a good friend of mine. He's got himself a very rare guitar and some will say whoa! but I believe that was a very fair price. Any comments?

That auction excited me so that I bought a '59 315 later that nite.

Not silly money, a good investment the way I see it. John Williams, congratulations! I heard you bought one, can you post some pictures here. Where did you get it? Was it Toshio Sogabe's? He has my old 315 so I'm wondering if you have my old guitar? Cool either way.

Awesome John William's! I had forgot about Pete's! Glad I know where it is. I played that at Pete's Guitar in St.Paul back in 1979. Could have bought it for $400 but only had $300 on me. I bugged Pete for years but he wouldn't tell me where it went. Unfortunately, Pete died way to young in a car accident and his shop is gone. Was one of my favorite places on the planet to stop. Glad that guitar has a good home! Maybe I'll talk you out of it one day when my ship comes in.

I picked up the '59 315 today. I was on a family trip in Orlando and the seller lives there. He delivered the guitar and man, its beautiful! I took it back with me on the airplane. It was cool to see it go thru the X-ray machine. Anyway, once I got it home, I opened her up. I removed the guards. I can honestly say that I doubt that the guards had ever been off since they were screwed on 45 years ago. Pristine. In the cavity, I noticed the word BLOND in pencil. More info soon.

JWilli, another one? I think you guys have known about these for years and finally it's sinking in how rare they are and I better buy them now. Tell us more as I can't wait to hear about it and see some photos. Congratulations on another great addition to your collection! Or, is this a set-up job?

I haven't seen them all of course, but the one that JWilli just picked up is probably the best one I've seen so far. The case looks flat-new. With the keys too!!!

Congratulations John.

I've played that 315/325 a few times, the seller is a friend of mine. Very nice guitar.

Congratulations to both David and John W on their recent '59 315 aquistions. These are both fantastic rare guitars and my second personal favourite Rics of all. Fancy seeing two of these change hands within a few days. Great to see them going to good homes.

One of these days I might even round up a 50's Ric of some description for myself.....sigh.
