What all have you done? And what were the results, in terms of sound? If you don't mind my asking.

I routed the bass for a pair if hi gains in the "4002" positions. The rear most hi gain is actually a standard bridge hi gain cut down and mounted to a brass plate (left over from modding the 60's Rick lapsteel pickup surround I use for the center pickup, which is a RIC HB1). The HB1 has a volume control. While the hi gains are run through a balance control, then to another volume control. The HB1 pickup volume can be pulled to drop a coil, while the hi gain volume control can be pulled to change both mono output jacks to stereo. I removed the mute housing from the tailpiece, then modded it for top loading strings, and intonation adjustment from the front. I made the pickguard and truss rod cover from 1/10" thick bureled maple. The tuners are Hiposhot UltraLites. I've sanded the top edges quite a bit to remove the sharp bound edge. The whole bass has been sanded, oiled, and waxed, and was influenced by Lemmy, hence the Motorhead mascot/logo above the tailpiece. I wanted a more midrange, punchier tone, hence the pickup placement, while the HB1 gives a great all around full rock tone. The bass is tuned BEAD with Kalium balanced tension strings with a .136 B string.

Music jam Dec 5 with Montezuma Brown 4003. People just drool (at the bass, not so much my skills) when I bring this out to play.

I don't think so Paul. It looked virtually unplayed when I got it. On this forum you explained the appearance of a toaster pickup on this model and you mentioned that you had a MB yourself. The jack plate data says 04 23888. I've never visited the RR register. I think I purchased it around 2010.

OK, twin brothers from different mothers then. I've sold off most of my Ricks (just keeping two now) and I know some of them have been sold by the people who bought them from me. I can't keep track of my children anymore!

But it sure looks good on you!

very kind of you to say so, Paul. It's a sharp looking instrument; that's for sure. It does go with my brown eyes

Montezuma Brown should be a factory standard finish right along side Fireglo in my opinion.
