Does RIC still make Steels?

If not, then when did production stop?

The last production of Ric steel guitars was in 1970 or 1971, according to Gruhn's Guide. However, I have seen a few lap steels that don't fit any descriptions that were probably produced in the late 70s or early 80s. They are wood bodied with a red finish, have platic control plates and non-horseshoe pickups. Construction is flimsy at best.
