Ringo Performs Live from Liverpool

Post by wmthor »

Ringo was live from Liverpool on this morning's CBS The Early Show. He performed Liverpool 8, the title track of his new CD.

I didn't see the youtube link but I believe it is a 360/12 Jetglo.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I couldn't get a real good look, but I thought it was a 330. I was looking for the presence or absence of the triangle inlays on the neck. And the shots weren't close enough nor long enough for me to get a good look.

It looks like a 330 to me as well.

I just saw them perform "liverpool 8" on Letterman and the guitarist was playing a fireglo 360/12.

I also saw Ringo last night on Letterman - He's looking great, and I liked the new song. Hard to tell on TV, but it looked like the 360/12 the guitarist was playing was Amber Fireglo. It still had the "made in USA" sticker on the pickguard!

Apparently Ringo walked off of the Live with Regis and Kelly set. They wanted him to cut down the length of Liverpool 8 by too much.

Story here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22787129/ among probably many others... :D

Unfortunately, Ringo’s rather under-whelming efforts at recently headlining the launch of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year are coming in for a fair of ‘stick’ from within the ranks of Merseyside’s local media.

Below are links to just a few examples of the type criticism that is being locally heaped upon him

I think Ringo is darned fortunate that someone has given him a recording contact.

The book "Here, There, and Everywhere" by Geoff Emerick is good reading, especially regarding Ringo. I don't think Ringo and Geoff exchange Christmas cards, or much else. Emerick noted that there were two Ringo's, the "on" friendly, funny one and the one people didn't see. Maybe the other one is more prominent now.

I have to think that, at age 67, Ringo IS tired. How many times has he been interviewed and asked the same questions? And everyone has bad days. But I give him credit for still being out there. I love Ringo, and he was and is great rock drummer. But let's remember that we're he's a singer of very limited range and ability and also has very limited songwriting ability. I do think that most of Liverpool 8 is rather sappy and near maudlin. I preferred his previous CD,"Choose Love." I don't think this live band is nearly as good as the Roundheads.

He was on Larry King last night with a good back up bunch, including Dave Stewart on Rickenbacker guitar. A quick and fluffy interview (King's specialty), and enough time to play live what was a very sappy narrative rock ballad.

Just before they cut to a commercial, and in the segue, there was a Ringo/Beatles photo montage with "Photograph" playing under. I was reminded how Ringo once actually HAD the pulse of the times. Its a terrific song with a timeless and infectious hook.

I saw Ringo's performance on Letterman via the youtube link.

I'm a big Beatles fan. I really am, but I've got to admit, after getting such a superior product during the years the band was together, it's disappointing when you hear a mediocre at best project from one of them as a single act.

I feel almost disloyal for stating that, yet I think it's true. There's the expression: "It isn't even in the same ballpark"!
With Ringo's new song, it's like he was once on the Super Bowl winning team that not only won, but crushed the opponent and now he's playing in on a Recreation League softball team. Now so far below the old level and not even the same sport.

He has earned the right to do so, though!
