Up for sale, a 1972 Rickenbacker 4001 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage 4001 has numerous features consistent with the 1969-72 transitional era including the shorter headstock, Grover "Cracker Jack box" tuning machines, clear acrylic finger rest, crushed glass triangular inlays, maple headstock wings, and three screw bridge/tailpiece design.

The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the original lucite truss rod cover is intact, as well as the stock Grover tuning machines and previously noted maple headstock wings, which replaced the walnut wings used until '72.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the wiring harness was replaced in the past with pots that adhere to factory spec and high quality tone capacitors. The bass was at one time wired for active electronics, so there is a clean 9V battery-sized route hidden under the pickguard. The edge of the control cavity nearest to the Rick-o-Sound jack plate was also routed slightly wider to accommodate the new pots. While the neck position Toaster Top pickup is original to the bass, the bridge pickup is an era correct genuine Rickenbacker replacement. Other hardware of note includes a replacement single-ply white pickguard and more modern bridge/tailpiece with five mounting holes (while the original three bridge mounting holes were used, the other two mounting holes present on this tailpiece were left empty so as to not add any unnecessary holes to this vintage bass). The stereo jack plate is a genuine Rickenbacker part, but dates to July 1982.
