- March 2016 in UK for sale as "Project Bass"
This is a 4001 Rickenbacker bass body and neck which has been oversprayed (not by me and quite heavily it must be said) in a sort of Word War 1 Jazz camouflage pattern of geometric white and black.
The through neck construction revealed where the spray paint has chipped around the heel and been scraped back inside the neck pickup route
It should be noted that in the past (again before my time) this has suffered a neck break. It was repaired and it is stable (including under string tension). It looks particularly bad in the photos because I scraped away the black and white paint to inspect it and to make it clear to any purchaser that the repair is there. I do not believe that the repair will need redoing but if someone strips this back then I am sure that a skilled repair person could make it look much better by filling the outer parts of the repair with wood dust or something similar. I am emphasising this as I don't want anyone to overlook the repair before bidding.
While I quite like the black and white design in a weird way, it is far from perfect (with a fair few paint-only chips) and I would imagine that the person who buys this will want to spend some time restoring it to something closer to its former glory. That's why I bought it some years back but, what with other projects, I just never got round to it.
In addition to the body/neck the following items are included in the sale:
Scratchplate -possibly original but definitely oversprayed in black
Origial/authentic Rickenbacker truss rod cover (small piece on the corner has broken off but still have it so it can be repaired)
Seymour Duncan neck pickup
Bridge pickup (this could be original but I am not sure)
Controls/wiring harness as shown - obviously not connected
Schaller machine heads fitted
