Up for auction is a genuine 1979 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass project. Serial number SB 683, which dates the production of this particular 4001 to February of 1979. The entire bass has been stripped of finish and is ready to restore to your liking. The maple body has black binding along the top (indicating the original finish was transparent white). The body does have a crack repaired as you can see in the photos along the bottom bout near the electronics cavity, and does have additional screw holes for aftermarket pick gaurds, tuners as well as strap buttons. These can all be filled and invisible under the proper finish! The fretboard is a beautiful pau ferro (I believe this is correct) with shark fin inlays, and has been converted to a fretless with the fret slots filled in. The neck is straight and features the dual truss rod system. The bass is being sold with the vintage shaped case (in overall decent shape, all latches work, lining complete), and most IMPORTANTLY the output jack cover with the serial number stamped!
