- Here is what we have observed about the guitar: This Ken Roberts guitar is in fantastic condition with no apparent cracks, repairs or refinishing -- and it has just been tested with an amplifier and is all ready for you to enjoy plugging in and playing. There is, as seen, some playing and aging wear as is to be expected, with a notable "belt buckle rash" scuff-patch on the backside. The instrument ( Serial Number: B795 ) seems to conform to original specs, having: a shaded-brown 3-ply mahogany wood flat-top body (with completely intact edge binding); the two f-holes on its lower bouts; the compensating bridge; the Kauffman Vib-Rola “whammy bar” device; the brass “Rickenbacher Electro - Los Angeles” logo plate on a pearloid headstock; the revered 1.5-inch horseshoe pick-up; the one octagonal brown bakelite volume knob; the zinc tuners; and the original black case (with key).
This unit was uncovered here in Seattle and was originally owned & played by a long-gone local gentleman who led a small band that performed on the Seattle—Hawaii—Los Angeles cruise-ship circuit during the Hawaiian music-craze era of the 1920s and 1930s. [His name will be provided to the winning bidder.] “Case candy” includes: original Rickenbacker string packets; vintage newspaper clippings; former owner’s set of finger picks.
