- RICKENBACKER MANDO GUITAR (1971) by FERRARA
IN 1971, RICKENBACKER MADE SOME MANDO GUITARS FOR RICHARD FERRARA, A RETIRED DERMATOLOGIST, AT AGE 33, DOC FERRARA WAS GIVEN BANJO LESSONS BY EDDIE PEABODY, AND THE TWO BECAME FRIENDS, YOU CAN GOOGLE THIS INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET
RICKENBACKER MANDO GUITAR (1971)
VG-EC, fireglo finish, ~24-1/2" scale, 2 toaster pickups, 8 strings, set up now as an octave mandolin (first 2 paired, 3rd and 4th in octaves - tuned a full octave below a mandolin) but could also be strung as a plectrum banjo, bi-level pickguard, Ac'cent Vibrato, white-bound triangular soundhole, 381-style body (german-carved top), deluxe trim with checkerboard around top and back, "crushed pearl" triangles in white-bound fretboard, large white truss rod cover says "MANDO GUITAR / by FERRARA", like the Eddie Peabody Model 6006 except with 8 strings instead of 6, THIS IS A PREVIOUSLY UNDOCUMENTED MODEL (mentioned in the Richard Smith book, which incorrectly surmised it to be a 12-string octave guitar like a Vox Mando-Guitar), there were two of these instruments custom ordered by the current owner, and as far as we know there are no others, on consignment, with OHSC (a little musty) (SN:KA 016)
