Originally this guitar was fireglo and had an F-hole. One can see the fireglo paint showing through dings in the newer black finish, and in the control cavity. Effectively the guitar has been "Lennonised", probably some time ago: F-hole filled, B5 Bigsby added. The black finish has a wonderful craquelure to it. The guitar came to the UK from the Chicago Music Exchange around five years ago with the report that it had brought to them by a band that played Beatles material.
The machine heads are replacements (holes for the older replacements show); and at some point after the guitar had been re-finished, someone had a go at moving the bridge pickup. A channel was cut into the top of the guitar under the inner leading edge of that pickup.
It was said to have been refretted. As the pics show, the frets nearest the headstock have some wear - refretting must have taken place some time ago.
