- Project bass:
The bad: Soemone has heavily modified this bass. There are many, many things with this instrument that are not original. The tuning machines, the pickups, the wiring, the pickguard, the case; MANY things about this guitar have been modified, or are missing altogether and the beginning price of the auction reflects that. This is a project/player's bass, and as a disclaimer I did not do any of the modifications on this bass, I simply acquired it this way. The electronics: they are EMG aftermarket active pickups, the specific model I am not sure. At some point it had period correct Alembic Activator pickups installed in it, and they are included in the auction as well. I did not change the pickups, but I was informed by the previous owner that the Alembic set is fully functional and complete. The wiring has been completely revised from the Rick-o-sound original design, and the original Rickenbacker pickups are not included in this sale. The assumed to be original pickguard has been modified to fit the EMG pickups currently in the guitar, the body is possibly routed to accommodate them as well. The condition of the bass: It is in good condition with some considerable wear to the back of the neck, belt buckle rash is evident on the back of the bass, as are dings and chips on the body. Some spots of the finish are in very good shape, some are worn. That said, the finish is original and has not been redone or touched up in any way. It is apparent that it was someone's go-to bass and was played extensively, which could begin to explain some of the modifications done to it. What is missing: This bass is missing the bezel for the bridge (treble) pickup and the original pickups and wiring harness. One control knob is missing as well, although a set of 2 modern reproductions are included with this auction... It is also missing the original tuning machines, but retains the original tuner screws.
